​​​​​​​When I began my PhD research, I wanted to investigate the history behind the words ‘baptism' and ‘christenings' and what the linguistic differences between churchgoers and non-churchgoers may tell us
The new texts which have recently been authorised by the Church of England are intended to enhance the Church's provision for services of baptism.
It is my privilege as a local vicar to be there for families wanting to have their child christened. Often families come with lots of questions about the service and about their choices of godparents.
The Revd Sarah Lawrence examines the historical development of the language we use to describe baptism and how her findings impact on her ministry now.
The Archbishops' Council Project on the ministry of baptism with children has begun to trial a range of resources in 4 pilot Dioceses, including a brand new website www.churchofenglandchristenings.org.
Research has shown that families who have their children baptised in church are expecting us to continue to be in touch with them and talk about faith. In every baptism service, the church makes a promise to help families on their faith journey, but how effectively do we do this?</p>

One of the recurrent memories of my childhood is doing things for charity - saving milk bottle tops for Blue Peter; putting coins in a Barnardo's whirlpool donation box, making cakes for a cake sale at school, and more.
