Passports and decree absolutes – how to make sure you always check

The Pastoral Services Diary is an online administration tool to help you keep on top of tasks and dates relating to the occasional offices.

Some tasks are absolutely vital to remember to do, and two new tick boxes are being introduced to ensure you can record that you’ve completed them.

The first relates to the Immigration Act 2014 which requires clergy to check the passports, or other suitable documents, of all couples wishing to marry. (If you need it, there’s guidance on this in the Downloads section, see ‘Changes to marriage law for non-EEA nationals’ and ‘Guidance notes on specified evidence’).

By August 2016, you’ll be able to tick a new check box on all Wedding Services in the Pastoral Services Diary when you have seen evidence of nationality.

We’ll also be introducing second new check box to tick, this will be to record when you have seen a decree absolute in circumstances where this is required.

Until we add these new options, you might like to set up a custom Reminder for your Wedding Services to remind you to check off those tasks.

If you haven’t already got a Pastoral Services Diary Account, register here. You can also watch an introductory video which tells you how else the Pastoral Services Diary can help you. If you have any questions, contact me, I’d be happy to help.
