The Gift of This New Day: Music for daily prayer

The Gift of This New Day brings beloved choral pieces to life, featuring sacred music from Hildegard of Bingen to Rachmaninoff, plus contemporary pieces

The Church of England’s Daily Prayer audio service has comforted and inspired millions worldwide since its launch in 2021. Featuring choral music performed by St Martin’s Voices, it has included everything from traditional chant to contemporary styles inspired by Taizé and Iona.

The Gift of This New Day is a new CD from Church House Publishing featuring all-new recordings of the most-requested pieces featured at Morning Prayer across the different seasons of the church year. These include pieces based on well-known sacred music in the public domain – from Hildegard of Bingen to Rachmaninoff – alongside new commissions from Cecilia McDowall, Sarah MacDonald, Nils Greenhow, Owain Park and Lucy Walker.

Alongside the new CD from Church House Publishing – also available on streaming platforms – the Royal School of Church Music (RSCM) have produced a companion sheet music volume containing all 31 pieces featured on The Gift of This New Day for choirs and music groups wanting to enhance local worship with these simple and beautiful settings of cherished texts.
