A bishop’s reflection on sport and everyday faith

The Rt Revd Simon Burton-Jones reflects on how everyday faith might be expressed in places where we’re engaged in our usual sport and wellbeing activities

IT IS SOMETIMES SAID THAT sport is like Marmite, people either love it or hate it. These feelings can stem as far back as childhood, where someone might have been picked first or last in physical education. Elite sport has a role to inspire the population, but most are in the same boat when it comes to capability.

Sport is a wonderful gift from God that can unite people and promote wellbeing, so how can your church help the community to get moving no matter their individual capability? National Sports Sunday is a chance to figure out what does sport and wellbeing mean to God and how your church fits into this. For more information on National Sports Sunday see the Sports Chaplaincy UK web page.
