How to give youth mission some KICK!

KICK has a mission - to transform young people’s lives, with God’s love, through sport and support. We do this through values-driven physical education, street dance, mentoring, chaplaincy in schools and community KICK Academies.

We believe that through active and exciting sports provision, we can see young people further engage with education and have an enriched experience of school. We deliver PE National Curriculum as well as breakfast, lunchtime and after school clubs in a range of sports. Our curriculum seeks to ensure that young people are introduced to a wide range of sports both within and outside the curriculum to enrich their experience.

We have found that dance can enable a wide range of young people to be more active as well as be a powerful platform for us to impart life skills to young people. We provide a wide range of dance disciplines which allow students to explore a range of movements, build and define new skills and experience dance in a variety of forms to gain interest. Sessions are fun and vibrant and encourage the personality of each individual to be seen and celebrated.

Working with schools

With schools becoming increasingly more aware and in-tune with the need for a focus on wellbeing and positive mental health for young people, we have seen a rise in demand for our solutions-focused mentoring provision in schools. We use this approach to help young people find the solutions they need for whatever unique challenges they face. We have found that the approach not only increases a young person’s sense of self-confidence, but changes their thinking patterns at home as well as at school. We have seen evidence of this where schools have given us feedback and feedback from parents.

We believe mentoring has the potential to refocus attention on to an individual’s own strengths and can empower them to make positive decisions for themselves that will build confidence and responsibility.

Diversity built in

KICK are passionate about reaching a diverse demographic of young people, we work with the full range of schools and we are based in different parts of the UK too.

At the heart of all that we do is that we want young people to be pointed to Jesus, for them to know that Jesus believes in them and sees their potential and wants them to thrive. We love being able to teach them about core values such as love, joy, peace, patience, faithfulness, goodness, kindness, self-control, hope, perseverance and integrity through PE, dance and mentoring.

We know that this is only part of the way that we can reach young people, so we are committed to supporting local communities through setting up KICK Academies. Our KICK Academy model provides churches with all the tools and resources to deliver high quality football, dance or multisport coaching linked to a theme, which enables them to share a sports’ ministry slot from the bible before the young people end with matches/performances. For example, the theme on one day may have been ‘focus’ – so they focus on their passing, heading and shooting. Then in the sports ministry slot the young people hear an inspirational story about the theme from the bible – in this example, a story that could work well might be when Peter focused his eyes on Jesus and got out of the boat to meet Him in faith. This is a seamless switch and one which engages the young people through the tool of sport and dance.

The ethos of KICK means that each and every KICK Academy is available to all young people, irrespective of ability or background. It is about the taking part and fulfilling personal potential.

We are always looking to grow our team of coaches who are passionate about seeing young people’s lives transformed through sport and support. Please check out our career opportunities or email our HR manager on beccilee@kick.org.uk.
