What is the purpose of Vocation Sunday?

Vocation Sunday is a day set aside for all church members to reflect upon God’s calling in their life. For all are called to serve Christ in the world, this may be at a local level, and for others this may be further afield, but this day is that opportunity to remind the whole church family that ‘all are called.’  This day presents an opportunity to explore, reflect, discern and discover what shape that calling might be.  We sometimes assume a calling requires us to leave one thing, and be part of another, but God may well be calling us to a greater witness and ministry exactly where we are already placed, for others it may well include a journey from one place to another. Vocation Sunday is an opportunity to ask the question “where do you want me Lord?” and to wait and discern God’s response to us.
