Value of tweets/social media in eulogies

When visiting a family in preparation for a funeral, the deceased’s daughter told me about the tweets she had posted and received following her dad’s death. He had been a police officer and I asked if I could use the info in the eulogy. As a result, I ended the eulogy with: “It’s the final over and out for PC**. No more signals.” While it didn’t mean much to me, it did to loads of people at the funeral, as it is police radio language and it was greatly appreciated. I’d never have known to use such fitting words if I hadn’t had the tweets shared with me. I’ve since asked families about what’s been said in sympathy on twitter or other social media where it seems appropriate, as a way of finding out a bit more about the deceased.
